COVID Precautions

SALT is mask optional for rehearsals and we do not require proof of vaccine status nor testing. Masks are not able to be worn during tech rehearsals and performances. 

Audition Date

In-person auditions will first require a dance call and will take place at SALT's Chester Springs location (1645 Art School Rd, Chester Springs) on Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 6-10PM (wear comfortable clothes in which to dance and bring dance shoes, including tap). The vocal auditions will be the first-round of Callbacks by invitation on Monday, June 5 from 6-10PM. The second round of callbacks, if necessary, will take place by invitation on June 8 in the evening, also at SALT's Chester Springs location.

PLEASE NOTE: We will be casting 7 singers to offer vocal support backstage. See below for those audition requirements.

Performances & Rehearsals

Performances will take place at SALT's Chester Springs location on the weekends from September 8-24, 2023. We ask all cast members to reserve the Thursday evenings prior to these weekends for potential added performances. 

The Read Through will take place on the evening of June 13 and rehearsals continue on Sunday afternoons (12-5PM) and Tuesday/Thursday evenings (6-10PM). Rehearsals will initially take place at SALT's West Chester location and will relocate back to Chester Springs prior to Tech in August. A detailed list of our rehearsal/production schedule can be found here. Please be sure to list all your personal schedule conflicts on your audition form.

Audition Format

For the Dance Call, we will be teaching 3 combinations, including the original opening number, as well as a tap number. If we invite you back for the vocal audition on June 5, we will want to hear you sing 32 measures of a song of your choosing from the show. We will provide the live accompanist.  

If auditioning for a backstage vocalist only, please submit an audition form (above) and a  video to Lmccomas@saltpa.com singing 32 measures of a song from the show with accompaniment. Deadline for video submissions for the backstage vocalists is June 4. Please put "A Chorus Line Backstage Vocalist Audition" in the subject of your email.

Character Descriptions

Age Restriction and Content Warning
All performers must be 16 years of age or older by June 4, 2023 in order to audition. A Chorus Line is for mature audiences and will contain profanity and sexual references. For those who are ages 16 & 17, signed parental consent to participate will be required upon casting.


All roles are open and SALT strongly encourages all performers to submit for any role regardless of type, gender, ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original Broadway cast (unless noted below in the role descriptions). 

We are seeking to cast the following roles:

 

ZACH: The director and choreographer of the show. Does not need to dance. Submit a vocal audition via video if interested in this role.

LARRY/LAUREY: Zach’s assistant. Strong dance skills.

ALAN DELUCA: Baritone. From the Bronx. Street tough, macho, newly married to Kristine.

 

BEBE BENZENHEIMER: Alto. From Boston. Very insecure about her looks, very funny which is a cover for her insecurities. Feels a little bit excluded but just wants to be liked.

 

BOBBY MILLS: Baritone. Flamboyant, funny, and witty. Very sharp tongued. Covers everything over with a joke. 

 

CASSIE FERGUSON: Soprano. Older Dancer. Very strong dancer. Shy & kind-hearted. Previously had a relationship with Zach.

 

CONNIE WONG/MACKENZIE: Alto. Experienced dancer. Short. Married. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Born in Chinatown, Lower East Side, New York.

DIANA MORALES: Alto. Latino/a/x. Streetwise, a little bit tough, eternal optimist and starry eyed. A determined athletic dancer from the Bronx.

DON KERR: Baritone. Ladies’ man, married, into cars, money, and women. Hedonist, cool, flirts with Maggie, very sure of himself. Cocky, worked with Zach before.

GREGORY GARDENER: Baritone. Over sexed, over drugged, done it all before. Very conscious of how he looks and appears to others. Quite a smart-alec and has worked with Zach before. Very East Side New York.

JUDY TURNER: Mezzo. Funny, gawky, nervous, scatterbrain. Warm and hopeful. Very awkward except when dancing.

KRISTINE URICH: Mezzo. Wide-eyed, naïve. Very nervous when not dancing. Married to Al. Strong comedic skills.

MAGGIE WINSLOW: Soprano. A sweetheart, little sister type. Dreamer. Fairly experienced dancer.

MARK ANTHONY: Tenor. Optimistic, first timer, naïve but charming. Great dancer. Hopeful and fresh. Very young.

MIKE COSTA: Tenor. Quite aggressive, determined, cocky, sure of himself but likeable. Tap dancer who worked with Zach before. Experienced and flirts with the girls.

PAUL SAN MARCO: Baritone. Latino/a/x. Introverted and slightly insecure but loves performing-is only now starting to feel comfortable about being gay and accepted by his parents. From Spanish Harlem, New York. Friends with Diana.

RICHIE WALTERS: Tenor. Black, strong dancer, enthusiastic, cool and funny. Very likeable and laid back.

SHEILA BRYANT: Alto. Oldest dancer on the line. Brassy, sexy, sassy and sophisticated. One of the more popular dancers, very funny.

VALERIE CLARK: Mezzo. Sexy, sassy, funny & foul-mouthed. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker.
