About This Production
We are so excited to produce Into the Woods for the 2nd time at SALT -AND- as our 2nd production in SALT 2.0's renovated space in Chester Springs! New video wall! New surround-sound system! New scene shop! New special FX! While our original production of Into the Woods in 2015 was absolutely beautiful, this will be told with a brand new, exciting vision.
Audition Dates
​​​Initial auditions will take place at our CHESTER SPRINGS LOCATION (1645 Art School Rd, 19425) in person via time slots (register above) on the evenings of July 7 & 8, 2025. If you absolutely cannot make an in-person time slot on either evening (which is much preferred), video submissions will be accepted, emailed to LMcComas@saltpa.com by July 6. Please put "Into the Woods Audition" in the subject of the email. Callbacks will take place if necessary and by invitation-only on the evening of July 14.
Performance Dates
Into the Woods performances will take place on the weekends of Oct 10-26, 2025. All performances will take place at SALT's Chester Springs location (1645 Art School Rd, Chester Springs, PA 19425).
Rehearsals
Rehearsals will typically take place primarily in Chester Springs on Sunday, Monday, & Wednesday evenings (with a few exceptions). A full production schedule can be found here. Please indicate all conflicts with this schedule on your audition form.
Please note that any conflicts with tech rehearsals or performances will not be accepted.
Audition Format
Please prepare to sing two song cuts (32 measures each) in the style of the show; one or both can be from the show, but they do not have to be from the show. Bring your sheet music with cuts clearly marked in a binder for our live accompanist.

Compensation
This is a community theatre production performed on a volunteer basis.
Roles
All roles are open and SALT encourages all performers ages 16+ to submit for any role regardless of type, gender, ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original Broadway cast.

Narrator
An intellectual and dynamic story-teller who helps to orchestrate the show and illustrate lessons to the audience. This track will potentially include the role of The Mysterious Man and Cinderella’s Father, however, we are happy to see all ages/genders for this role.
Vocal range: G2-E4
Cinderella
A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters.
Stage Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range: G3-G5
Jack
The feckless Giant killer who is 'almost a man.' He is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed.
Stage Age: 18 to 30
Vocal range: B2-G4
Jack's Mother
Browbeating and weary, Jack's protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed.
Stage Age: 50 to 65
Vocal range: Bb3-Gb5
The Baker
A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his battles. He longs to be a father, but is unsure if he would be a good one.
Stage Age: 35 to 45
Vocal range: Ab2-G4
Intimacy requirements: possible kissing
The Baker's Wife
Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors. She seems satisfied with her lot, but the witch’s quest unlocks a deeper passion in her.

Intimacy requirements: kissing, physical touch
Cinderella's Stepmother
The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella. This track may potentially include the role of Cinderella’s Mother as well.

Florinda And Lucinda
Cinderella's stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother's footsteps, abusing Cinderella at every opportunity.
Stage Age: 25 to 35

Little Red Riding Hood
A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted, and fearless, yet youthful and naive.
Stage Age: 14 to 20
Vocal range: Bb3-F5

The Witch
Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel. She is vain, selfish, straightforward, aggressive, and deeply insecure.
Stage Age: 25-55

Cinderella's Mother
Deceased with her soul guarding and aiding her daughter from a tree. This track may potentially include the role of Cinderella’s Stepmother as well.
Stage Age: 40 to 55
Vocal range: E4-F4
Mysterious Man
A mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured protector and observer. This track will potentially include the role of The Narrator and Cinderella’s Father as well. This performer should be comfortable with sitting on the floor, kneeling, running, crawling, and doing a lot of physical movement based work.

Wolf
A hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey. This track will potentially include the role of Cinerella’s Prince as well.

Rapunzel
A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world.

Cinderella's Prince
Vain and gorgeous, he is a disloyal lover who is always hunting for the next new, exciting thing. This track will potentially include the role of The Wolf as well.

Rapunzel's Prince
Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exciting endeavor.

Giant
Voiceover. An angry and vengeful 'monster.' She is seeking restitution for her loss. This track will potentially include the roles of Milky White and Granny.
Stage Age: 40 to 60
Non-Singing
Milky White
Elderly (for a cow) and endearing companion to Jack. We are specifically looking for an older, female presenting performer for this role, however we are open to seeing all ages/genders. This track will potentially also include the roles of Granny and the Giant. This performer should be comfortable with sitting on the floor, kneeling, running, crawling, and doing a lot of physical, movement based work.
Stage Age: 40 to 70
Non-Singing, Non-Speaking (aside from a Moo or two)
Steward
A servant. Self-important, snide, cowardly. This is a role with a fair amount of stage time, but few lines. We’re looking for someone to make the absolute most of this part.
Age: 18+
Cinderella’s Father
A drunken fool of a man. This track will potentially include the role of The Narrator and Mysterious Man as well.
Age: 45-60
Granny
A spry woman who will protect her own.
Stage Age: 40-70
