Performances & Rehearsals

Performances will take place at SALT's Chester Springs location on the weekends from May 29 - June 14, 2026.

The Read Through will take place on the evening of Feb 24 and rehearsals continue mostly on Sundays & Tuesday/Thursday evenings. A detailed list of our rehearsal/production schedule can be found here. Please be sure to list all your personal schedule conflicts on your audition form. Conflicts with tech and performances are not accepted.

Audition Format

Please prepare:  Two contrasting song selections in the style of the show. One or both can be from the show. If you are auditioning for a specific role, we would encourage you to sing their corresponding song as one of your selections. Please have sheet music in a binder with cuts clearly marked for our accompanist.

If you are auditioning for the role of Pippin, we would like to hear the two selections AND just the last verse of Corner of the Sky, starting with “So many men seem destined” through the end.

If you have a special skill, acrobatic trick, or anything that makes an audience gasp in delight, we would like to hear about it and see it at the initial audition. We understand that doing these things in your cute audition dress or non-stretchy pants might not be possible, so we encourage you to just bring your authentic self and dress accordingly to show off your best skills!

If you are only auditioning for a non-singing, dance only ensemble role, still sign up for an audition time slot, and plan on doing a two-minute variation piece to show us some dancing. Please provide your own speaker/musical accompaniment if desired.

Character Descriptions

This is a community theatre production. All cast members are unpaid and perform on a volunteer-basis for the love of it. All roles are open, and SALT encourages all performers to submit for any role regardless of type, gender, ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original Broadway cast.

We are seeking to cast the following roles:

Leading Player

The ultimate master of ceremonies. Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. We’re looking for a triple threat singer, dancer, storyteller.  They are obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience. The person cast should be willing to spend some time outside of rehearsal learning a host of magic tricks and illusions.
Vocal range: Db3-Ab4
Age: 18+

Pippin

Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo. This role will involve closed-mouth kissing with the role of Catherine as well as some ensemble members. It will also require engaging in simulated intimate acts that will be choreographed tastefully through dance.
Vocal range: G2-Ab4
Age: Early 20s

Charles

Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.
Vocal range: G2-E4
Age: 50s

Lewis

Pippin's half-brother. Simple and arrogant, a real himbo.
Age: mid-late 20s

Fastrada

Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.
Vocal range top: A3-F5
Age: 35-50

Berthe

Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.
Vocal range top: E3-C5
Age: Any - The concept for this character allows flexible casting in age and gender. More details will be given at callbacks, but for now we encourage anyone interested to go for it!

Catherine

A widow and mother. She is beautiful and a hopeless romantic who possesses graceful elegance. She encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him. This role will involve closed-mouth kissing with the role of Pippin. It may also require engaging in simulated sex acts that will be choreographed tastefully through dance.
Vocal range top: F#3-Db5
Age: 25-35

Theo

Catherine's son.
Age: 8-12 or 18-22
Within the concept of the show, this role could be played by a performer the actual age of the character, or by a young adult.

Ensemble (ages 18+)

Plays a host of different characters and also acts as understudies for the lead roles. With the exception of Pippin, everyone in the cast is part of the ensemble for a majority of the show. We are looking for excellent singers, dancers, and storytellers. Most ensemble roles will require engaging in simulated intimate acts that will be choreographed tastefully through dance. Some may also involve closed-mouth kissing with the role of Pippin as well as other ensemble members.
Our ensemble size is flexible and we are open to casting non-singing performers as featured dancers.

**A note on intimacy - We are committed to an open and safe environment where boundaries are respected and given the space to change as needed for the performer. The descriptions of intimacy above align with the initial vision of the production, but are always adaptable to the performers cast in the roles. We encourage you to share any boundaries and/or potential boundaries at your initial audition or callbacks. This will not affect your casting as we will always prioritize casting the best performer for the role.
